As the play is all about a period of time used for celebrating Twelfth Night, where people played tricks on one another and deliberately tried to confuse them, it is necessary to have scenes like these amongst some of the more serious and sincere scenes, and that is what makes this play one of Shakespeare's most classic comedies.
